Biography
Biography
I have studied at California College of Arts and Crafts Oakland, Ca., Cal State University Chico and Butte College. I have a BS degree from Cal State Chico in Business and the equivalent of a BA Degree in Art. Like most artists, with no disrespect to my former teachers, I consider myself self-taught.
Subject matter which inspire me are the many facets of humanity such as beautiful women, children, anyone with character etched into their face and animals. I place the subjects into natural, yet imaginary, settings which I call "living-scapes". I also do some surreal works which defy description.
These subjects of inspiration are manifested into a timeless style of painting called "pointillism". This style is much like that used by the famous French Impressionists. After covering my hardboard with solid acrylic colors I apply detail by dipping my brush into a tube of acrylic paint, (no palette is used), and brushing on dots or dabs of pure paint. I thus get more pure and lively colors and achieve what I consider to be "impressionistic realism".
Much like the "Society of Six" in the San Francisco bay area in the 1920's, "I don't try to 'say' things, but do try to fix upon hardboard the joy of vision. I have much to express but little to say".
My goal is simple yet difficult. Amaze and delight myself in the creation and amaze and delight the viewer in the viewing.
It is my belief that art has healing powers both in the viewing and especially in the doing. I also believe that children should grow up hugged, loved, listened to and unafraid even of strangers.
